RM of Chesterfield’s story
The Rural Municipality of Chesterfield No. 261 was incorporated as a rural municipality on December 9, 1912. It lies in southwestern Saskatchewan, and the South Saskatchewan River forms its southern boundary.
The town of Eatonia is surrounded by the RM, which also includes the organized hamlets of Mantario and Laporte and the localities of Cuthbert and Eyre.
The land includes Cabri Lake, the largest lake in the RM, and the Mantario Hills in the west. The hills are home to an Important Bird Area, a significant staging area for Canada geese and a nesting area for the ferruginous hawk, as well as the Mantario Wildlife Management Unit. The Cabri Lake Effigy is listed among the RM's attractions. Today the RM is served by Canadian National Railway, Highways 21, 44 and 635, and the Estuary Ferry.
